Doumentation quality: Comments: I didn't rate the ''documentation'' section because I didn't have to use documentation or on-line support for this tool. We will soon upgrade our SPM version, we didn't do it yet because SPM2 works very well for what we need. -

Comments: Email list is extremely useful with a large group of users answering questions. Overall documentation is somewhat weaker. However, since the tool does so much, documentation would be a book (which exists and should be bought). Differences between spm2 and spm5 are limited. GUI of 5 can be better for larger analyses, but spm2 still works fine. -

Comments: Documentation -- The manual is essentially a compilation of all those tooltips in the GUI that led you to seek the manual in the first place. And good luck ever finding a guide to those SPM.mat fields. They're only standard... -

Comments: Overall -- Never had advertised expectations, but has been able to compute most analyses we have encountered for fMRI studies Installation -- Drop-in-folder convenience. Documentation -- Poorly commented, bad variable naming, confusing schema Long-term -- Has worked well across multiple studies Feature Requests -- most tools available in toolbox form -

Comments: Long-term -- It's what everyone uses, so it has a long future. Feature Requests -- Please let us do headers in the later versions. It's annoying having to use SPM99 and then switch to the later version. -

Comments: Overall -- Appropriate tutorials and practice data sets are provided so that it is easy to learn to apply its methods to your own dataset. Installation -- Very straight forward. No issues. Documentation -- A comprehensive manual is provided and the mailing list is quite active. Long-term -- The tool does what it claims to do. I know that development is active but don't have a response beyond that. Feature Requests -- The tool includes all the features that we need in our daily work. Other tools, such as FSL incorporate tools specifically for work with DTI data, which SPM does not have. -

Comments: Overall -- Yes, it does what it advertises. As a first time user I was able to follow steps given to me to get desired results. However, there were a few glitches in Anatomy toolbox. Installation -- It was already downloaded on the computer I was using, so I'm not sure. Documentation -- Yes and Yes. Long-term -- There is a definite need for tools like this in the fMRI community. This is the only tool I'm familiar with, so I cannot speak about if there are others that are similar. -

Comments: Overall -- Yes, and is extremely easy to use. You sometimes sacrifice analysis flexibility though Documentation -- I tend to use the search of the email archives...if this could be organized and condensed it would be really helpful. Long-term -- needs to integrate structural analyses Feature Requests -- percent signal change extraction -

Comments: Overall -- The tool performed functionality as promoted, but the ease of use is a contradiction in terms. It is not easy to use but is worth the time. Installation -- very difficult to download and run on Windows O/S. Had to switch to Linux to get it to work. never got it to run on Windows at all. (Windows XP) Documentation -- web based only documentation, and limited in usefulness. Would like a tool that is turnkey and it works straight out of the box. -

Comments: Overall -- Originally the documentation was aweful so things could be challenging. Now there is more and it is much easier to use. Significant advances have been made with SPM5 in terms of user interface and ability to change options while setting up the analysis of interest. Documentation -- Originally there was no documentation. However, now there is significantly more and it is very helpful. Also, the e-mail list support is very quick to answer all questions. Long-term -- I think it will continue to be used by the fMRI community since it is free and well recognized and becoming much better documented. There are of course other tools (FSL for example) that may be just as good, but I see no benefit to switching to that tool if one is already using SPM. Feature Requests -- SPM2 had no capability to make batch scripts unless you were a programmer. This was a disadvantage. SPM5 however, alows you to create batch scripts to re-use for later analyses. This has been very helpful.
